Fattening beds should have a depth of 4 to 5 inches. This is very important because you want your worms eating as much as possible in 7 to 14 days.

Harvest larger collard worms from breeding bins. These are the worms that you will want to fatten before selling. Transfer worms to the fattening beds and feed them WORM-GRO PLUS™ for 7 to 14 days. Your worms should have consumed the food before you feed again. If not, reduce the amount of food that you are giving them. Remember it is important that you feed only what they will consume in a 24 hour period.

We strongly recommend that you use either WORM-GRITS™ or ground Calcium Carbonate each time you feed your worms. This does several things: it provides the grit that worms need to digest their food, it helps maintain the proper PH of the bedding and it will help to control mites which will compete with the worms for the food. Simply sprinkle the entire surface of the worm bin with the grit after feeding.
